With the team preparing for their pre-season friendly down in Eastleigh to take on Trojans this Sunday, we caught up with the Hawks Women Head Coach, Ali Mortimore who shared his thoughts ahead of the new season.
"We are really excited to be back playing our first of two warm up games as we build towards our opening league match at home on the 26th September to local rivals Reading Abbey.
Pre-season has been excellent, all things cosidered, and the squad is in good shape thanks to Fi's S&C programme. I am looking forward to seeing all their hard work they've put in come off over the next few weeks, whilst just enjoying playing again.
In both warm up matches we are taking the whole squad to allow us to try combinations out and make sure they all have some game time. We will play 4 x 20 to allow us to match playing levels against their squad per quarter. We will have some 2nd team fixtures this year, so important everyone is seen.
Personally this is the first time I get to see the majority of them in action, as only a handful are still here from my previous time. We have had a good number of new players join in the last few months too. Again very excited to see how they all go.
Whilst results are important for the level we are at, these next two weeks are about allowing them to perform, express themselves and build towards the opening league weekend".
Kick-off at Trojans on Sunday is 2pm. Their address is;
Trojans RFC, Stoneham Lane, Eastleigh, SO50 9HT
