It is with great sadness that the club has learnt of the passing of Nick Nearchou. Until very recently Nick coached for over 10 years at the club through the mini and junior sections and was an exceptionally well known and popular figure down at Henley on Sunday mornings.

For over ten years Nick dedicated his Sunday mornings to coaching a Mini & Juniors group at Henley from Under 6's though to U16 which included his son Zac. Nick remained endlessly cheerful and passionate, not just about the boys’ squad but also about the Hawks as a club and the wider game of rugby. He always put the team first and contributed a great deal to the running of the squad and indeed the Club outside of the training and match days.

Nick was ever present, week in week out in fair or foul weather regardless of whether Zac was away representing the county. He will be remembered for his unselfish contribution to the team and to the takings at the clubhouse bar, where he could often be found holding forth.

Nick was old school rugby in many ways - preferring full contact rugby as a warm up to netball, and always being the first to greet new players, parents, the opposition and the officials. His generosity in everything he did will be greatly missed by his fellow coaches and all the players he coached over the years.

Nearly all rugby players in England are introduced to rugby through enthusiastic and dedicated parents and it is often through these relationships that the love for the game is born. Nick inspired many during his time at Henley Hawks and it is a tragedy that he has been taken so young. Our thoughts are with his wife Brenda and children Alex and Zac.
