Henley RFC looks forward to opening its club doors on Sunday 13th September and welcomes local players back down to get involved in England Rugby’s ‘Pitch Up’ celebrations. Now that clubs have been greenlit by the Department of Digital, Culture, media and Sport (DCMS) to play Ready4Rugby, an adapted non-contact game and O2 Touch, it's an exciting time to get back playing the sport you love.

Henley RFC Pitch Up weekend will provide the perfect opportunity for players to return to the club and learn the RFU’s adapted gameplay Ready4Rugby and offers them chance to catch up and train with teammates, following an extended break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

All ages welcome, with sessions scheduled for each age group. Henley RFC will also be opening their club house with a variety of hot and cold food and refreshments from 9.00am to 2.00pm.

The timings for Sunday are as follows:

09.00am to 10.00am : U6, U7, U8, U12

10.30am to 11.30am: U9, U10, U11, U13

12.00pm to 1.00pm: Girls, U14, U15, U16, Colts

Extra health and safety measures have been introduced at the club and government updates will be monitored to provide a safe environment for participants.

If you would like to give rugby a try, then come along this Sunday. Ready4Rugby is a non-contact form of the game and therefore and ideal time to try it out.

Bill Sweeney, CEO England Rugby commented: “I’m delighted to give clubs the greenlight to play Ready4Rugby and get rugby back on the pitch. Pitch Up provides a great opportunity for grassroots clubs to welcome back players and begin playing rugby once more. More importantly, an opportunity to bring the rugby community back together and have some fun following a difficult few months”

Ready4Rugby is an adapted form of rugby union that encourages go forward, support, continuity and pressure, all driven by decision making. It’s still fun, it’s still competitive, it’s suitable for all ages and will help in preparing for full contact rugby once government guidelines permit.
