It is with great sadness that we report the recent passing of former 1st Club Captain Mike Kann. Mike was a well-respected member of Henley Rugby Club for sixty years.

He joined the club in the mid-sixties but because his career took him to the North East, he played his early senior rugby for Middlesbrough.

On returning South he soon made his mark as an accomplished fly half and played regularly in the first team, which achieved great success in the early seventies. He served as club captain in the 1973/74 season, and on finally retiring had notched up over a hundred and eighty first XV appearances. He also loved the game of sevens and was a member of the side which won a number of tournaments in the same era.

Mike’s other sporting obsession was tennis at which he also excelled and continued to play at a very good level into his sixties.

Following his playing days he could be found on the touchline at many of the home and away games studiously analysing the performances until he eventually found difficulty in travelling to matches.

Mike will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
